The South African Coastline - 2798 km of unsurpassed beauty that confounds the mind and incites the soul.
A country that is a medley of culture and diversity; her people mirror the landscape and shorelines that range from romantic coves and bustling beaches to menacing sea cliffs with waves that pound the shore like a thousand Niagaras.
When travel is an experience and not a destination you are certainly spoilt for choice from the beguiling warm waters on the East Coast all the way down to the thrilling cool seas in the West. Whichever extreme you choose to experience; Africa will leave you enthralled and lusting for more. Our 27 blue flag certified beaches rival some of the best in the world with sub-tropical climates and the wild majestic splendour that is uniquely South African. The warm Indian Ocean current along the East Coast is perfect for diving and recreational fishing. Sodwana which means 'place of little one or little treasure' in zulu borders on Mozambique in the North. A combination of the tropical sunshine and warm currents resulted in a pristine coral wonderland that houses over 1200 species of reef fish. It is aptly named by international divers as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world. You could spot manta rays, whale sharks and dolphins; not to mention loggerhead turtles that are common all year round. Travelling down the East Coast is a land steeped in history from the bronzed sands and warm seas in St Lucia which is a now a natural heritage site in the Zulu Kingdom to the rolling hills of sugar cane fields. The valley of a thousand hills announces your arrival in Umhlanga; playground of the rich. Here you will find entertainment in abundance and every water sport imaginable. Further South is the lively, colourful city of Durban synonymous for its spicy food and bazaars. A bouncy rickshaw ride on the promenade is something worth experiencing!!! Golden sands stretch all along right to the Wild Coasts uninterrupted natural beauty. These seas have seen many shipwrecks in stormy weather. Watching the zambezi sharks trawl the coast line makes one wonder whether Poseidon held court in these magical waters. Jeffreys Bay in the the Eastern Cape is picturesque and the gateway to the Garden Route, the most beautiful region in the Cape. South Africa's last remaining steam train the Choo Tjoe train is a must and for the more adventurous the highest bungee in the world. Whether it's the endless white sands and cool turquoise waters in the west or absinthe green and warmer seas in the east, South Africa is as wild as she promises and exotic and enticing to behold. www.fmessentials.com |
